"Cat Amongst the Pigeons"
Early morning in the Sabi Sands Game Reserve, Mpumalanga, the remains of a
giraffe kill was found and was being consumed by several Spotted Hyena and a
flock of Vultures. One of the Hyena's suddenly lurched into the middle of
the Vulture pack scattering them in all directions
Spotted Hyena - Crocuto crouta
Cape Vulture - Gyps coprotheres
The Spotted Hyena is large and vaguely bearlike. It is sturdily built with high shoulders
and long muscular limbs.
The Cape Vulture is difficult to distinguish from the Whitebacked Vulture, but is larger and
much paler in appearance. It has two bare patches of blue skin at the base of its neck
