Position Summary:

Serving as the owner's Project Director assume responsibility for the delivery including all design, procurement, construction management and startup of this green field, mouth of mine, 300MW (2 x 150MW) coal-fired power station project. Responsibility and authority for the effective leadership and profitable management of the project so as to ensure that progress targets are met or exceeded, with particular emphasis on ensuring that: planning and implementation, on time delivery and within budget targets are achieved, while motivating, mentoring and guiding the project team to their full potential; and creating an ethos of excellence, safety and desire for continuous improvement and success. The appointment of an EPC contractor for the construction of the power project is being finalised and the anticipated date of the project's commencement is October 2011 with a scheduled duration of 30 months to completion

Key Attributes Required:

  • Bachelor of Science Engineering degree in either Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
  • Must have prior experience of managing the delivery of green-field, coal-based thermal power projects from inception through to completion
  • Must have at least three years experience of delivering projects of more than US$100 million project value
  • World class and world experienced in a major Engineering, Construction and Project Management (EPC) environment
  • A proven and verifiable track record of functioning at a strategic level in a multi-disciplinary EPC environment while also managing the day to day operations to ensure efficacy
  • Demonstrated track record in development and management of multiple schedule-driven projects
  • Experienced in the management of Contractor, Sub-Contractor and Supplier relationships
  • Have prior experience of working with international EPC contractors
  • Have gone through at least two full cycles of starting and completing such projects,
  • Conversant in planning, cost control and contract administration
  • Highly entrepreneurial, an energetic self starter with the ability to operate autonomously making key decisions in a remote location
  • Proven excellence in project management skills
  • Ability to identify project critical-path, anticipate risks and quickly develop contingency plans
  • Experience with hiring, training, and supervising engineering and technical personnel
