POSITION SUMMARY:

Responsibility and authority for the effective leadership and profitable management of the project so as to ensure that progress targets are met or exceeded, with particular emphasis on ensuring that: planning and implementation, on time delivery and within budget targets are achieved, while motivating, mentoring and guiding the project team to their full potential; and creating an ethos of excellence, safety and desire for continuous improvement and success

KEY ATTRIBUTES REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor of Science Engineering degree, ideally Mechanical Engineering
  • Must have had at least three years experience of delivering projects of more than R1 billion (US$133 million) project value with operational accountability and responsibility for at least 1 000 people
  • World class and world experienced in a major Engineering, Construction and Project Management (EPC) environment
  • Advantageous to have had experience in major industrial projects in the energy sector (power stations, petrochemicals, oil and gas or nuclear power) or airports. 
  • A proven and verifiable track record of functioning at a strategic level in a multi-disciplinary EPC environment while also managing the day to day operations to ensure efficacy
  • Experienced in the management of Client, Contractor, Sub-Contractor and Supplier relationships to ensure that the position and reputation of the Company is upheld
  • Astute regarding contractual matters, possessing sound knowledge of tenders and relevant legal agreements
  • Experienced in the use of ISO 9001
  • Technically strong and able to inspire the confidence of the client and manage the relationship with the technology supplie
  • A manager and leader with a technical orientation combined with very strong communication and people skills
  • Good financial reporting ability and knowledge
  • Able to facilitate decision-making at executive level and interact extensively with senior executives
