POSITION: Financial Director  

NATURE OF BUSINESS: Mining Company in Namibia                           




  • Responsible and accountable for all financial and accounting functions including the development of strategies for sustainable value creation and for supporting senior management in strategic decision making

  • Responsible for implementing and monitoring effective financial and risk control systems and ensuring relevant and accurate financial reporting systems and stakeholder engagement

  • Formulating financial strategy and policies taking account of the Mine’s and its Shareholders’ business strategy, policies, generally accepted accounting policies and standards, statutory frameworks and regulations

  • Identification and reporting of all economic, financial, regulatory risks to the organisation and recommendation of mitigating actions

  • Financial analysis and reporting, including all internal and external financial submissions and all regulatory submissions (IFRS format and activity based costing)

  • Compliance to all financial aspects of statutory and regulatory requirements of the Companies Act, Income Tax Act, Value Added Tax (VAT) Act and Minerals Act

  • Facilitate LOM budgeting process within a cost control system, analyse compliance to budget, review and report on reasons for variances and advise best practice solutions for variances

  • Evaluation of capital project submissions; compilation of applications to the Board and reporting project status and operational requirements; determination of assets to be capitalised and the depreciation thereof according to relevant policies and standards

  • Oversee the execution of a comprehensive budgeting process and co-ordinate the effective financial management practices of the overall business



  • Essential to hold a Chartered Accountant qualification. Additional post graduate qualifications would be desirable

  • Eight to ten years of progressively responsible financial experience for a major company or division of a large corporation

  • Preferably someone who has worked in Namibia and is familiar with business and relationships in the country

  • Mining company experience covering a broad range of activities such as financial, commercial and systems skills

  • Detailed understanding of mining economics and impacts on business short/long term perspectives

  • Experience in the application of analytical methods with an emphasis on corporate decision making

  • Must understand the Mine planning cycle

  • Ability to see the value drivers in the business and drive areas for improvement

  • Previous experience in supporting shareholders and the Board both is successfully running the current business and in M&A (preparing and reviewing materials, interfacing with external investors, preparing Board presentations)
