Interim Chief Executive

Manufacture, Sales and Distribution of Equipment

Company Background:

The Company is the biggest distributor of its equipment in a niche market in South Africa with about two thirds of the market share.

 

The Company has a manufacturing facility and also distributes a range of branded products. In addition, the Company has an export business and exports to other countries in Africa. 

The Role

The business has recently been created out of the merger of two competing operations.

An Interim Executive is being sought to manage the integration process.

The Interim Chief Executive role involves a 12-18 month mission to successfully integrate the two businesses and set the foundation for long term success and profitability. The position involves responsibility for:

  • Managing the vertical integration in the market to optimise selling effectiveness and margins
  • Managing the manufacturing and distribution operation, with distribution points to the professional trade in all major markets and a strong representation in the mass and DIY channels.
  • Driving the strategy of consolidation, market leadership and profit maximisation of the R350 million turnover business
  • Increasing profits through the reduction and consolidation of operating costs
  • Exploring opportunities to introduce new products  to the South African and African markets

Profile of Leader required 

  • Experienced and strong South African executive, having led a ZAR300 to 500 million industrial company with complete P&L responsibility
  • Significant experience in successfully leading a merger and post-merger integration. Able to clearly match the cultures of two different companies (with a long history together, often competitive) and integrate them
  • Experience in both trade and consumer marketing, with a strong understanding of product marketing and sales management
  • Experience in traditional (entrepreneurial), Mass and DIY channels of distribution
  • Experience working within a matrix organisation and in an international environment
