POSITION:  Executive, Remuneration and Benefits, Payroll and Administration

 

NATURE OF BUSINESS: Mining

JOB LOCATION: Johannesburg

REPORTS TO: Vice President, Human Resources

 

TOTAL STAFF RESPONSIBILITY: 30+

 

SUMMARY OF EXECUTIVE OPPORTUNITY:

Assume responsibility and authority for driving, designing and implementing the Mining Group’s approach to remuneration and benefits; managing the payroll, human resource administration hub and call centre and ensuring the delivery of a high quality professional service

 

 

GROUP BACKGROUND:

The Mining Group is a Division of a leading global resources company, and is among the world’s top producers of major commodities. It has three mining operations. The division employs in excess of 4 000 permanent staff and 6 000 contractors

 

KEY EXECUTIVE ATTRIBUTES REQUIRED:

  • At least five years experience leading the remuneration & benefits, payroll and human resource administration functions for a major group which employs at least 5000 staff
  • Should ideally have managed a human resource call centre
  • Broad knowledge of best remuneration practices
  • In-depth understanding of relevant income tax and labour law and general human resources practices
  • Should ideally have a working knowledge of SAP
  • Must have a relevant tertiary qualification. A post graduate business qualification will be advantageous

KEY JOB PERFORMANCE AREAS:

  • Establish credibility as Executive Manager, Remuneration and Benefits, Payroll and Administration without alienation of existing staff and rapidly assume managerial responsibility in order to build upon the Group’s existing successes and momentum
  • Gain immediate acceptance as an individual of professional integrity with extensive knowledge and experience in the remuneration and benefits, payroll and human resource administration fields.

Remuneration and Benefits

  • Design, manage and execute remuneration strategies, plans and projects ensuring they are creating competitive advantage (external) and internal parity in their ability to attract and retain talent within the company
  • Provide thought leadership, technical expertise and practical solutions in all areas of remuneration and benefits (including Global Mobility)
  • Contribute to the development of the Human Resource five year plan as a member of the Human Resource Leadership Team
  • Act as “remuneration champion” in support of the Human Resource Transformation Plan
  • Initiate and co-ordinate mandating processes in terms of salary, benefits and policy changes
  • Support the Remuneration Committee (including appointments of Executives)
  • Conduct regular national and international benchmarking
  • Control the quality of service of outsourced functions and agencies 
  • Ensure sufficient processes and control measures are in place to drive performance and compliance

Payroll

  • Manage the payroll

 

Administration Call Centre

  • Manage the Human Resource Administration Call Centre ensuring the delivery of core human resources transactional/administrative services and remuneration, benefits and payroll advisory services to the Group
  • Measure the effectiveness, value and level of customer service provided by the Administration Hub and Call Centre

Management

  • Effectively and efficiently manage all available resources to achieve optimum business performance by:

*        leading, motivating and managing subordinates

*        setting, implementing and monitoring key tasks

*        re-organising resources to maximise efficiency

*        providing the highest level of customer service

  • Assess the competence of staff in key areas and make changes as necessary, staffing the company with competent personnel and supervising their direction, appraisal and compensation

  • Contribute to the overall effectiveness of divisions Human Resource function
