SUMMARY OF EXECUTIVE OPPORTUNITY:

Spending 4 weeks in country and 2 weeks out, manage ongoing studies (e.g. Concept, Pre-Feasibility, Feasibility) on future developments for the group's tenements and concessions in Liberia and Guinea in compliance with the group's standards. Provide technical leadership and expertise. Plan and coordinate the workplan, resourcing and management of individual studies. Coordinate and onboard appropriate resources for designing tasks and to oversee the members of the study team, and define scope, results and implications of relevant studies and exercise control over budget and quality.

 

GROUP BACKGROUND:

The group's Iron Ore division is expanding its operations in West Africa. It has projects in Liberia and Guinea and is in negotiations with a global steel manufacturer to create a West African Joint Venture in respect of both parties' Liberian and Guinean Assets. The Iron Ore division holds the rights to four Greenfield exploration licenses in Liberia and has recently concluded a Mineral Development Agreement (MDA) which is a 25 year agreement over these concessions. In Guinea, a part-owned subsidiary of the group holds a MDA for a property as well as exploration licenses for a further two sites.

 

KEY EXECUTIVE ATTRIBUTES REQUIRED:

  • A relevant degree in an engineering or project management related discipline
  • Professional experience as a studies / project manager in major mining or infrastructure projects
  • A minimum of 15 years' practical experience in senior project roles, with an emphasis in early stages of development
  • Demonstrable track record of understanding and managing all aspects of mixed-resource project evaluation and development programs including geologic data collection and modelling, resource evaluation and reserve reporting, metallurgical and process studies, capital and operating cost estimation, environmental-social aspects, and project financial assessment
  • Experience of project leadership drawn from a broad scope of cross functional experience / expertise
  • Experience with project management, environmental and social programs, and safety requirements
  • Seasoned and proven successful management of large international projects from conceptual stage through basic and detailed engineering
  • Experience in operations would be an asset
  • A solid foundation and experience in contemporary community relations practices and standards is required
  • Leadership selection and assessment ensuring the right people are in the right roles, removing poor performers and identifying and developing key successors
  • Proven experience of successful completion of concept, pre-feasibility and feasibility, scoping and optimisation studies is highly regarded
  • Experience operating in Africa or other developing countries will be favourably considered

Development Project

  • Plan, coordinate and direct all studies on schedule, within budget and to the required quality, in line with project execution plan
  • All aspects of concept, pre-feasibility and feasibility studies; scoping and optimisation studies for existing operations
  • Monitoring the overall progress of the undertaken studies
  • Manage the implementation of designated studies with respect to content, presentation, communications, cost control, scheduling, internal review and audit, reporting, maintenance of study records and the overall direction set by the Head of Projects, West African Iron Ore
  • Work with Head of Projects, West Africa IO and Head of Resource Planning & Development, West Africa IO in various aspects of study scoping, design, operating practices, methods, procedures and design outputs
  • Co-ordinate and provide the appropriate resources within the study team to complete designated tasks
  • Manage the preparation of designated study documents to ensure quality and accuracy of information
  • Develop, implement and maintain a risk management process for individual studies to ensure safe and effective completion
  • Develop, implement and maintain a studies quality management plan
  • Collect data relating to performance and budget, track performance against Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and provide regular reports to the Head of Projects, West Africa IO and Head of Resource Planning & Development, West Africa IO
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations
  • Manage budgets and have an understanding of the cost management process
