POSITION: Chief of Staff to Group Executive: Marketing, Communications and Public Affairs

REPORTS TO: Group Executive for Marketing, Communications and Public Affairs


Support the Group Executive for Marketing, Communications and Public Affairs in the strategic process by focusing on obtaining synergies between the different business units (BU) and focusing the Marketing, Communications and Public Affairs (MCPA) department’s resource spend on prioritised strategic projects. Enable  the Group Executive to be effective in his role as a key Strategist in the Bank.


The group is the South African Subsidiary of a major listed global financial services provider and offers products and services that cater for the needs of individual, commercial and corporate customers.


  • Seven to ten years senior managementexperience gained in financial services with proven experience in the following areas: client relationship management, financial management, strategy and policy formulation. Marketing and Communications experience would be advantageous
  • B Degree in Commerce or BusinessAdministration or Finance or Banking or equivalent NQF level 6 qualification or higher


  • Act as key advisor to the Group Executive providing knowledgeable review and recommendations for intended policy shifts ensuring that context, analysis and the views of the respective areas are collated, filtered and summarized
  • Act as initial point of entry for escalated client queries and for queries from other external stakeholders
  • Take personal accountability forresolving complaints lodged directly with the Group Executive
  • Monitor the financial effectiveness of the MCPA Department and advise the Group Executive of any possible deviations and the actions that have been created
  • Ensure that policy or strategy decisions taken by the Group Executive are communicated to the correct audience and gauge the understanding and commitment from the audience
  • Continuously monitor the potential impact of new tactical plans on the reputational risk of the MCPA Departmentand the Bank
  • Act as crisis coordinator and allocate tasks to the crisis teams
  • Advise seniors in the business on appropriate action to take to minimise risk
  • Attend a multitude of strategy forums and key management committees and provide early warning to the Group Executive of any probable issues and proposed solutions
