Branded Clothing and Footwear



REPORTS TO: Managing Director


TOTAL STAFF RESPONSIBILITY: Approximately 30 people 



Assume responsibility and authority for the sales and marketing functions, with particular emphasis on enhancing the power of the company’s brands; and implementing sales strategies to ensure achievement of sales objectives, targets and growth in market share.


Should ideally have had sales experience at a senior level in children's products.



The company is a leading distributor of footwear and clothing brands, with exclusive license and distribution rights held for sub-Saharan Africa to a number of world-renowned international and house brands. 


Key areas of activity:

  • Gain immediate acceptance by the Executive Chairman, the Managing Director and other members of the Management Committee as an individual with strong managerial leadership qualities as well as professional integrity and retail brand sales and marketing experience
  • Determine, in conjunction with the Managing Director and other members of the management committee, the strategic vision, objectives and operating criteria for the company for the immediate, medium and long term
  • Control, regularly evaluate and report on the Sales and Marketing performance of the company against established objectives, plans and budgets          
  • Examine existing sales and marketing activities and methods, making improvements or changes where appropriate so as to differentiate the company’s products from its competitors
  • Oversee the marketing strategy and actively promote the company and its strong brands in the marketplace
  • Oversee the sales function. This includes setting sales goals, forecasting, successful meeting of sales goals and assuring responsive sales and customer service support with Strategic and Independent accounts
  • Oversee the selection and ongoing evaluation of retail channels and retail dealers. Oversee product selection, pricing, retail merchandising, retail marketing and distribution strategies to effectively position the Company’s Brands at retail. Establish and maintain strong relationships with customers

Key Attributes Required:

  • Graduate Calibre ideally with a marketing or business qualification
  • At least six years senior sales and marketing management experience, preferably in a medium to large enterprise involved in distributing products via the major retail chains
  • Should have been responsible for a sales turnover of at least R400 million and a staff complement of more than 30 people
  • Must have had trading experience and worked in, supplied to or interacted with the retail sector
  • Experience in consumer brand management is essential
  • Exposure to the clothing, footwear or consumer durable sectors would be an added advantage
  • Experience in a procurement function would be advantageous
  • Strong financial acumen
  • A stable career history with a demonstrable track record of success
