Hospital and Healthcare Strategic Sales Director (Medical Devices) for Sub Saharan Africa

Company Background:

The Healthcare Division provides medical technologies and services which enable healthcare providers to better diagnose and treat cancer, heart disease, neurological diseases, and other conditions.


Position Summary:

Support region growth objectives by developing, leading and winning new projects as well as upgrade and maintenance contracts for healthcare projects. Leverage full Group portfolio and collaborate with external partners to develop a competitive offering.


Key areas of activity:

  • Through in-depth analysis, identify large and strategic project opportunities in Southern Africa and the Sub Saharan Regions
  • Work closely with the Global team and the region sales team to define the best strategy for winning projects either directly or within partnerships
  • Act as primary interface with local project stakeholders to ensure consistent sales strategy with them. Responsible for building relationships and screening those worth engaging with.
  • Support sales activities for Public Private & Technology Partnerships (PPP/TP) projects.
  • Establish strong relationships with healthcare authorities and financing institutions
  • Leverage existing relationships to expand established markets and develop presence and market share in new territories within Africa.
  • Create innovative ways to structure integrated healthcare projects.
  • Negotiate and close projects.
  • Willingness to travel within Africa for 2- 3 weeks of the month

Key Attributes Required:

  • Tertiary qualification in Commerce / Business graduate and advantageous to hold a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree
  • Must have medical devices sales experience, working in Africa or other developing markets.
  • Project funding experience and closure of complex contracts
  • Good understanding of export/project financing processes & terms (incl. PPP)
  • Proven management and leadership skills, with the ability to build competent and diverse teams
  • Proven track record of developing business and building relationships with Business Leaders (Executive Level), Government Bodies, Health Industry and Non-Governmental Organisations
