Company Background:

A key division of a JSE listed Industrial Manufacturing organisation, with approximately 10,000 employees, multiple factories and a turnover in the region of R1.6 billion. Faced with challenging market conditions and lowest cost imported competition, the business has embarked on a turnaround strategy, primarily through the rigorous improvement of operating efficiencies and changing from a decentralised to a more synergistic strategy in order to take advantage of the economies of scale implicit in a group of this size.

Position Summary:

Based in Cape Town and reporting to a member of the Group's Executive Committee, the Divisional Procurement Executive will assume responsibility for establishing a centralised purchasing function, focused on consumable stores and stores requirements and outsourced service providers supporting five separate entities on separate operating sites. The Divisional Procurement Executive will achieve economies of scale in purchasing and negotiating  cost down initiatives with service providers, with the aim of reducing wastage currently estimated at R 5  million- R10 million annually.

  • Develop the procurement strategy and plan for the division
  • Assume overall responsibility for procurement processes, budgets, and negotiations of centralised supplier contracts and agreements
  • Create, implement, and manage sourcing strategies to support business objectives

Key Attributes Required:

  • Preferably of graduate calibre with a minimum of a diploma qualification
  • At least 10 years' experience of leading the procurement function in a manufacturing environment, focusing heavily on manufacturing consumables
  • Strong negotiating skills with a track record of success in negotiating service provider contracts and achieving economies of scale
  • Experience in providing service to multiple production facilities
  • Willingness to travel nationally
