POSITION: General Manager, Mergers & Acquisitions

NATURE OF BUSINESS: Multinational Group

 JOB LOCATION: Johannesburg (will require travel to various locations within Africa and elsewhere)

 REPORTS TO:  Group Head of  Mergers & Acquisitions


The objective is to support  board decisions to create and enhance shareholder value through identifying, evaluating and, if approved, executing equity related transactions including multi and single asset acquisitions, mergers, disposals or other investments or engagements with minority shareholders to enhance the portfolio of assets within the core business


  • Essential to hold a relevant financial degree

  • The ideal candidate will have 10 years of total work experience, including several years of successfully transaction execution at an established bank, private equity firm or large corporate

  • Strong financial modelling skills

  • Superior relationship-building, influencing and presentation skills

  • Must have the ability to interact directly and independently with the senior management of shareholders, regulators and technical partners

  • Must be willing and able to travel




  • Screen proposals for initial review and preparing or overseeing the preparation of preliminary review with a key focus on overall value assessment

  • Perform extensive analysis using sound investment techniques, financial modelling, stress testing and IRR methods to evaluate proposed investments to determine their sound fundamentals and appropriateness for the Company’s investment portfolios

  • Evaluate, structure, negotiate and close new transactions, portfolio restructurings, rescheduling, capital increases, equity sales, etc.

  • Lead the negotiation and documentation teams

  • Lead the investment team (if any) throughout the investment process

  • Leading the due diligence process for approved transactions

  • Together with the relevant Company managers assist the integration, where necessary, to achieve post transaction targets and ensure that agreed objectives are achieved

  • Ensure compliance with the terms of the investment agreements, prepare timely funding reports and equity valuations, track and record the development impact of projects, and develop and implement equity sales strategies
