300 full time staff and in the region of 100 contractors
FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
Managing an annual cost budget of N$300 million (US$40 million)
POSITION SUMMARY:
The General Manager, Operations, will have total responsibility for the smelting operations of the company, with a daily throughput of approximately 600 to 700 tonnes of copper concentrate and providing effective leadership to the operations team.
KEY ATTRIBUTES REQUIRED:
A formal qualification, preferably in Metallurgy
Strong interest and experience in an industrial operations environment managing at least 150 people
Should have had work experience in an industrial environment and managing a labour force in an emerging market
Advantageous, but not essential, to have experience in a smelting environment and ideal to have experience of a copper smelting process
Would be an added advantage to have had trade union negotiating experience in a formal structure through representative bodies
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
Key emphasis on the production process to ensure that production plans are achieved and on budget
Implement strict quality control for supplies to the refinery/ies of the right quality, timing and delivery
Develop a well motivated and strong smelting team by providing the necessary managerial talent, team leadership and technical expertise
Particular focus on safety, health and the impact on the environment of the smelting operations and work effectively with the authorities in the management of Health, Safety and Environmental issues
Manage both internal liaison (EXCO and staff; Executives in overseas head office and operations) and external liaison (suppliers, customers and authorities) relationships in a collegial, respectful and values driven manner
Be an active Member of the Executive Committee and contribute to the continued success and profitability of the company
Deputise for the Managing Director in his absence
