REPORTS TO:
President, West African Iron Ore
SUMMARY OF EXECUTIVE OPPORTUNITY:
Work as the group's representative in Liberia, to: maintain and build the group's brand in the country (single face of group portrayed in Liberia); represent the group in Liberia and optimise existing relationship with the government of Liberia and other related external stakeholders to ensure that the group is seen as the partner of choice for all mining and development opportunities in the country, including the interests of the group's joint ventures; manage the group's relationships with international diplomatic corps, multilateral institutions and NGOs; support development of new businesses, co-ordinate and facilitate the company’s commercial interests while maintaining and upholding the group's values as well as governance and operating standards; manage the group's Liberia offices including shared services. Reinforce the group's operating philosophy including HSEC, Anti-corruption, Code of Conduct etc. Constantly monitor / analyse the political, security and socio-economic situation, participate in country and project risk assessment and crisis management to help protect the group's interests in-country. Develop and execute the government relations strategy for Liberia. Coordinate with all external stakeholders, external communications, non-site management and administrative functions; interface with Asset President, West Africa IO to provide updates on in-country situation and progress against well planned and targeted government and community initiatives.
GROUP BACKGROUND:
The group's Iron Ore division is expanding its operations in West Africa. It has projects in Liberia and Guinea and is in negotiations with a global steel manufacturer to create a West African Joint Venture in respect of both parties' Liberian and Guinean Assets. The Iron Ore division holds the rights to four Greenfield exploration licenses in Liberia and has recently concluded a Mineral Development Agreement (MDA) which is a 25 year agreement over these concessions. In Guinea, a part-owned subsidiary of the group holds a MDA for a property as well as exploration licenses for a further two sites.
