"Leopard Learnership"

Mid-morning in the Sabi Sand Game Reserve, Mpumalanga, this female Leopard and her eight-month old male cub were on their way to an Impala kill stashed away in a tree. During their journey, the young

male cub would dash off into the bush and, on his return, look up to his mother to gain her approval and then rub his head against hers in a strong bonding action.

Leopard  -  Panthera pardus

Leopards embody feline beauty with stealth, infinite patience and power. They will get within 5 metres of

their quarry before pouncing, taking it completely by surprise. Tremendously strong, these cats can

carry a 70 kg Impala to a feeding position up a tree. Cubs' birth weight approximately 500 g. Cubs hidden for six weeks in dense thicket, caves or hollow trees and moved periodically. Weaned as early as three months

but dependent for at least a year.
